Las Médulas, the biggest and most spectacular auriferous exploitation of the Roman Empire.
If something has characterised, and still characterises, the El Bierzo is its beauty and fabulous scenery. Mountains and valleys shaping a silhouette washed with copious rivers and tributaries. Many cultures have been attracted by this beauty and then have decided to stay. Fruit of these settlements we find many remains of past epochs. Starting with the Romans, we have the auriferous exploitation of Las Médulas, currently acknowledged as Historical Patrimony of Humanity.

The Mozarabic, Romanic and Medieval art blend and are confused around all the Bierzo. The Bierzo has known and still knows how to welcome those who come to visit it. The pilgrims on their pilgrimage to Santiago here find the hospitality, calmness and strength that help them to continue their way; and even the exoneration at the Puerta del Perdón (Villafranca) for those who are disabled.
Puerta del Perdón

Templarios Castle in Ponferrada.
Art inundates and is part of the landscape, its fortresses (Templarios, de Villafranca, Cornatel Castles,...), its churches and monasteries (Mozarabic in Peñalba de Santiago, Romanic in Santa María de Vizbayo, Monastery of Carracedo y de San Pedro de Montes, ...), its pre-roman fortified settlements and medieval forges, its stone bridges full of History (Malpaso Bridges, and the medieval bridge of Molinaseca), its traditional buildings (farmhouses and “hórreos”-raised granaries-) and its manors with their typical lounges. The Bierzo is taking about its people, habits and traditions in order to be wondered by its rich gastronomy. The diners will enjoy all his/her senses at a table with generous dishes and excellent wines. Body and soul are comforted in order to continue getting to know the BIERZO.
